New Bread Cones at Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner

As many of you know, the famous Cars Land Cones are available at Downtown Disney Marketplace at Marketplace Snacks. The come in both Meatball and Chili varieties. We tested them out a few months ago, and while the fillings were fine, the bread cones were pretty stale. Thanks to Twitter user @wdwmickeyhunter (and retweeted by Adam Roth), I saw a new menu at Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner at the Studios featuring three new cones! The varieties available include Sausage, Marinara and Mozzarella, Cajun Shrimp Salad, and Chicken, Bacon and Avocado Salad.

Since I’m a fan of the Italian Sausage in a Baguette, I went ahead and odered the Sausage, Marinara and Mozzarella to try. And, for good measure, I also ordered a Cajun Shrimp Salad because I figured nobody else would. 😉

The sausage one was pretty darn good. It seems they use the same sausage as their stuffed sandwich, just sliced into pieces. The marinara is chunky and decent. The mozzarella is somewhat lacking. While what is there is creamy and melts just a touch, I think the cone would benefit if there was more dispersed throughout. It would be a difficult choice for me to order this over the baguette, but certainly see this earning a spot on my Min & Bill’s rotation.

Cajun Shrimp Salad. It’s not something I’ve even really had. Sure, I’ll eat lobster rolls by the faceful, and I love the crab salad on SwedeDish Food Truck’s Thor Viking Dog (their version of tunnbrodsrulle). But shrimp salad? Can’t say I’ve had it before. Until now. Tiny little shrimp, spiced with whatever “cajun” seasonings (I’m guessing a bit of cayenne), green peppers, mayonnaise and topped with diced tomatoes. And you know what? It wasn’t that bad. There was a decent amount of shrimp, the mayo wasn’t overpowering, and the peppers added a nice crunch. I’m definitely glad I gave it a try, and would order it again if I was looking for something “lighter.”

The bread cone itself. The ones I had at Downtown Disney tasted stale. These, on the other hand, were far from it. I actually wanted to eat the bread. It was soft with a touch of sweetness, and had the soft pretzel-like characteristics it should have.

Despite the Handwich mentality of both of these that I tried, you still needed a fork to really eat them. I can’t imagine how much I would have slopped on myself had I not had one! In all, I’m pleasantly surprised by the additions and look forward to ordering them again on my next visit to the park. If you happen to be in the Studios, swing by and give one a try. I’d love to hear what you think of them!

  1. LOL! “I also ordered a Cajun Shrimp Salad because I figured nobody else would.”

I think I might be interested in trying these. I’m definitely glad to hear that the bread was improved for you on this time over the last experience. “Soft pretzel-like” is exactly what I hoped the bread in these would be.

  2. Here’s hoping the freshness of the bread continues! 🙂
