2014 Food & Wine: Australia

We visited Australia back when the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival first opened. The kiosk is very much a fan favorite, and it’s one we enjoy stopping by as well.


Food prices have risen 25 cents each. The Grilled Lamb Chop featuring Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies (crushed potato chips) hasn’t changed since its makeover in 2012, while the Garlic Shrimp with Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Myrtle, and Rapini remains unchanged since its introduction last year. The Pavlova, a Crispy Meringue Shell with Fresh Berries and Vanilla Custard, only loses its Driscoll’s berry sponsorship.


This year, Coopers Original Pale Ale knocks a wine off the list, so Matt was quick to jump on line to try it.


The beer was okay, but nothing I’d care to seek out to have on hand at home. But for something we’d not had before, it was worth trying at the Festival.


My aunt ordered the Garlic Shrimp with Roasted Tomatoes, Lemon Myrtle, and Rapini. We tried the dish last year, and the presentation she received looked a bit brighter. While there wasn’t nearly as much garlic as the one we had received then, it was still a dominant flavor.


Grilled Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies is one we’ll likely be stopping back for again before the Festival ends. The chop itself can be hit or miss, sometimes being a bit overdone. But even when we’ve had it served overdone, the meat was still tender.


The Pavlova was a hit for me last year, as it wasn’t overly sweet, was light, and featured fresh berries. While I’m not sure if I’ll revisit it this year (there are still more savory dishes I’d like to revisit), I certainly will keep it in contention with any other sweets.

  1. The only item i tried here was the Pavlova… and now that I think of it I almost positive mine was missing the custard…. I thought it was good but something was not right and now I know what it is!

  2. Oh no! I really liked the custard part. That’s a pretty big thing for them to forget!

  3. I really enjoy the lamb chops although one time they piled on the pesto. Oooh ick. It was not good then. When I told my friend’s hubby Dan (he’s the sous chef at Shutters now) about it, he said they weren’t supposed to do that. It’s supposed to be a light coating and the chips are sort of held in place on it via the pesto. A blend of crunchy, garlic, salty, meaty, etc. I wanted to try the pavlova but couldn’t last year. The shrimp was good but we found it very salty (altho the shrimp was huge!). That was cooked perfectly once you removed the shell and scraped off a lot of the seasonings. LOL.
