BoardWalk Bakery’s Two Cheese Focaccia & Side Salad

A couple weeks ago, we made our way to BoardWalk Bakery at the BoardWalk Inn for their Fall Specialty Cupcake featuring a pumpkin pie filling and pumpkin spice icing. Of course, you know I’m more of a savory person, so I had to grab something else to bring home with me.

I decided to give their Two Cheese Focaccia a try, which features Provolone and Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Tomato Sauce, and Basil on Focaccia. It comes with a side, and options are a Side Salad or Cup of Soup. The salads in the display case looked simple yet fresh, so I opted for the former.

The Focaccia are held in a cooler and are put into a toaster oven to be heated upon ordering. I knew I would be bringing this dish home, so I wasn’t too bothered by the fact that the toasters don’t really toast these dishes enough. The exposed area heats up okay, but the middle remains chilled. You can see the mozzarella remains in a pretty solid slab.

Despite the temperature (heating it in an oven at home does a much nicer job), the flavors were, overall, pretty good. The bread had a nice texture, and once I crisped up the bottom a bit at home, it improved, adding a bit of crunch to an otherwise soft dish. The sauce could have used some more seasoning, and even with the cheese, some more salt would have done a lot. Adding the basil post-baking would really up its flavor as well.

The Side Salad was very simple and fresh. There are mixed greens, shredded carrots, and a couple of grape tomatoes. Packets of Ken’s dressing are available in the condiments area, but I instead added some balsamic vinegar at home.

Here are the menu boards:

Overall, I thought the Two Cheese Focaccia with the Side Salad was a very good meal. It provided a pizza-type fix that’s a big step up from the BoardWalk Pizza Window, and it felt like a more complete meal. Of course, if you’re looking for something a bit heartier, we’ve also tried both the Maine Lobster Roll and Roast Beef Sandwich, which are both great options as well.

Have you tried the Two Cheese Focaccia from BoardWalk Bakery? What did you think? Do you have a different item you enjoy?

  1. Is there any indoor seating since the remodel/expansion?

  2. Hi Joann! There is no indoor seating. The queue takes up the majority of the space, and the soda machines/condiment area takes up he remainder. There are some tables and chairs immediately outside of the space, and well as some along the water in to addition to high tops and benches.

  3. It looks like there is no up-charge for the focaccia daily special – is that right? The lobster roll is +$2 and the other sandwiches are +$2.50 to add on the side salad or cup of soup.

  4. It’s possible that it’s a typo as, like you noted, the daily specials typically run $2-2.50 more than the sandwiches alone. It’s worth asking the cast member if you intend to order it to be sure, much like how you can ask to not receive the side of fries or chips at most counter service restaurants to save $2 or so.
