Cool Wash’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Recognize this place, folks? Years ago, it used to sell pizza. It used to have a different look. It’s the Test Track Cool Wash trailer, situated across from the Cool Wash, near Test Track (surprise). It’s seemingly been closed every time I go to Epcot, and that’s quite often. But it’s back and serving Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

The menu is small, but there are more offerings than in the past. I opted for the Gruyere & Applewood Smoked Bacon Sandwich, which also contains Caramelized Onions on Sourdough Bread. Sandwiches are served with either Soup or Salad, and, considering it was in the mid-80s, I chose the latter. The soup option – Tomato Bisque – is a relatively small portion size. It looked to be served in the same size cup that the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup is served in during the Food & Wine Festival.

Have you been to a food truck? You know how they seemingly take so long because everything is typically made to order? Expect a wait here. There was one guest ahead of me, and a family already waiting for their food, and from the time I got in line to the time I received my food was around 10 minutes. Of course, this could just be growing pains. So how was the sandwich? Quite good. Salty, smoky, a little sweetness from the onions. It could have you a touch more browning on the exterior, but there was a crispness to the bread.

The Salad was a chicken-less version of their Roasted Chicken Salad entree and featured Chopped Romaine, Golden Raisins, Candied Pecans, Granny Smith Apples, and Cheddar Cheese topped with their White Balsamic Dijon Vinaigrette. It was light, fresh, and helped balance the richness of the sandwich.

And the menu:

Overall, the sandwich was very good. It was simple, but nicely executed and was one of those dishes that hit the spot. I’ve tried a similar attempt at Hurricane Hannah’s and wasn’t impressed. I’m definitely interested in returning to try the Fontina & Tomato Basil. Hopefully they remain open so that can happen. 🙂

Have you tried any of Cool Wash’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches? Which one interests you?

  1. I’m actually rather sad that this is likely a busy-times-only offering – I doubt it’ll still be around in November when I’m back. Of course, that’ll be during the Food & Wine Festival, so who’ll have time for to eat in Future World anyway?

  2. We had the Canadian Cheddar and Apples on the raisin bread – it was awesome. Currently my favourite quick service item in Future World now. So nice to see some creative meatless quick service options!

  3. Agreed! The Vegetarian Flatbread at Electric Umbrella is another nice option in Future World.
