New Dishes at Animal Kingdom

Some new dishes have made their way onto the menu at several locations at Animal Kingdom, according to the Disney Parks Blog. At the Gardens Kiosk, on Discovery Island, you’ll find the Trek Power Salad, which features quinoa, beets, edamame and citrus.

There’s also a Farmer’s Salad with blueberries, goat cheese and candied pecans. Both are eligible as a snack entitlement on the Disney Dining Plan. A Chilled Green Tea infused with orange blossom honey, cucumber-mint-pomegranate lemonade, and raspberry lemonade sweetened with stevia is also available.

Quick Bite: Rainforest Cafe’s Chicken Tenders

While on my way out of a recent trip to Animal Kingdom, I exited through Rainforest Cafe. I made a quick stop for lunch and kept it simple by ordering their Chicken Tenders – golden fried chicken tenders served with your choice of  Buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing or BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. I opted for the latter, but it was just served with BBQ (which was fine by me).

Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ

Flame Tree Barbecue recently underwent a refurbishment and extended the overhang to keep hungry guests waiting in line in the shade. Matt and I decided to stop by since it’s been a little over a year since our last visit. He also hasn’t had their ribs in several years (although I have), and since he got a smoker for Christmas, he’s learned a lot about the smoking process and makes some darn good ribs at home.

A look at the menu:

Matt ordered the 1/2 Slab of St. Loius Ribs, which comes with “Our delicious Ribs, Smoked In-house, and topped with our Trademark Barbecue Sauce. They are accompanied by our special-recipe, slowly Baked Beans and delicious Jalapeno Cornbread.”

New Popcorn in Animal Kingdom

While we will no longer be able to eat poop in Animal Kingdom (see our review here), at least we still have an assortment of new popcorn flavors to enjoy. Zuri’s Sweets Shop is offering bags of four savory flavors of popcorn: Harissa, African Spice, Curry, and Ras El Hanout.

Since I like heat, I opted to bring home a bag of the Curry Popcorn. These seasonings used include Chili Pepper, Coriander, Paprika, Red Pepper, Dehydrated Garlic, Salt, Cinnamon, Caraway, and Ginger.

The New Starbucks at Animal Kingdom

The new Starbucks in Animal Kingdom opened recently, replacing the former Creature Comforts gift shop. The location offers Starbucks Coffee and Espresso Beverages, Frappuccinos, Breakfast Sandwiches and Pastries, as well as specialty Disney treats. Guests who purchase a Flat White Latte will have a portion of their sale benefit conservation programs to help preserve Cotton-Top Tamarin in Colombia.

Disney treats include the Milk Tart with Toasted Coconut, which is also featured at restaurants in the new Harambe Market (though it’s called the African Milk Tart there but costs the same). I have yet to order one myself to review, but if you are looking to try it, I highly recommend ordering it here in air-conditioned comfort as opposed to standing in the sun at Harambe Market.
